Meetings of Development Cooperation Institutions (DCIs)

In the past several years some OIC Member Countries have emerged as prominent donors in the area of supporting economic and social development plans and programmes in developing countries in general and in other OIC Member Countries in particular. The Meeting of Development Cooperation Institutions (DCIs) is a high level platform where the relevant institutions and funds operating in OIC Member Countries gather to discuss the development agenda, coordinate activities and synergise in their developmental efforts.

Inspired by the OIC Ten-Year Programme of Action, adopted by the Third Extraordinary Islamic Summit, held in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, in December 2005, the idea of convening this Meeting has been initiated jointly by the General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Statistical Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) and the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA).

The First Meeting of the DCIs was held on 13-14 May 2009 in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, and the Heads of DCIs and the Heads of Delegations adopted Istanbul Declaration in which they decided to convene the Meeting of the DCIs of the OIC Member Countries annually, and establish the OIC Development Assistance Committee (OIC-DAC) with the aim of promoting development cooperation and assistance among the OIC Member Countries.
