Elderly Workshop

The Elderly Workshop was co-organised by Istanbul University, Galatasaray University, Istanbul Şehir University and the Ministry of Family and Social Policies on 20-21 October 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Elderly Workshop aims at bringing together academicians, governmental institutions, non-governmental organisations and private sector working in the area of elderly.

The workshop commenced with an inaugural ceremony at Istanbul University Culture and Convention Center on 20 October 2015. The opening ceremony started with the welcome speeches of Prof. Ismail Çoşkun, Head of Social Research Center, Istanbul University, Prof. Halis Yunus Ersöz, Vice-chancellor of Istanbul University and Ishak Çiftçi, Director General of Services for Elderly People and Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Family and Social Policies. The following sessions mainly focused on demography, social exclusion of elderly, elder abuse and neglect, discrimination against the elderly, intergenerational solidarity, living arrangements of older people in the society. Dr. Nilüfer Oba delivered a speech on the “State of Elderly in OIC Member Countries”.
