Technical Training Course on ‘Occupational Hygiene and Safety’

SESRIC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Turkey organised a technical training on “Occupational Hygiene and Safety” in Ankara, Turkey on 14-18 December 2015.

The event aimed to form basis for mutual knowledge and experience sharing among member countries, and brought together technical experts of Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) authorities of the OIC Member Countries, namely from Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine and Sudan.

At the opening session, Mr. Nabil Dabour, Assistant Director General of SESRIC, expressed his thanks to the participants for accepting the invitation and designating time for the event and indicated in his address that OSH practices have been generally given little attention in research and a significant number of OIC Member Countries still barely recognise the importance of OSH practices as an essential related element in national development. Mr. Dabour also mentioned that the technical training provide a valuable opportunity to exchange views and experiences and develop solutions to some key challenges and problems in this important area.

The first day of the technical training sessions started with the presentation of OSH experiences in Turkey and a visit was paid to the İSGÜM Laboratories, Chemical and Personal Protective Equipment and Mobile Occupational Health Units. In the next days of the training, the technical experts joined the physical and chemical factors and noise measurement and chemical sampling at workplaces and had the opportunity to practically measure noise, risks, and chemical factors within the workplaces.

At the closing session that was held at SESRIC Headquarters on 18 December 2015, H.E. Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya expressed his thanks and commended the experts for their participation and also extended his thanks and appreciations to the General Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health of Turkey (İSGÜM) for supporting this event through providing valuable knowledge and information.

Amb. Kulaklıkaya stated that SESRIC always stand ready to cooperate with all the national institutions of our member countries to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and best practices within the community of our Organization, especially in the area of OSH that constitutes one of the essential elements in national development.

At the closing session, H.E. Mr. Kasım Özer, General Manager of the General Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety conveyed his appreciation to the experts for their participation and stated that the cooperation and collaboration of İSGÜM on OSH will be growing with such activities taking place in the member countries.

At the end of the session, the participants were awarded with the Certificate of Participation to the technical training by H.E. Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya, Director General of SESRIC and Mr. Kasım Özer, General Manager of the General Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety.
