Meeting with the Delegates of National Statistical Offices of OIC Member Countries

SESRIC, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom), organised the annual Meeting with the Delegates of National Statistical Offices of OIC Member Countries on 10 March 2016 between 08:15 and 09:30 in Conference Room B of the UN Conference Building as a side event meeting of the 47th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in New York, USA.

Delegates of 26 OIC Member Countries, namely Algeria, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Egypt, Guyana, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sudan, Suriname, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey and UAE attended the meeting. The representatives of Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat), United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) participated, as well.

During the meeting, H.E. Amb. Musa KULAKLIKAYA, Director General of SESRIC, informed the participants on the progress of the OIC-StatCom activities including future projects. Following the second agenda item of the side event, the delegates shared their inputs and comments about the possible themes of the Sixth Session of OIC-StatCom that will be organized in December 2016 in Konya, Turkey.

Mrs. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Director of Statistics and Information Department, announced that this side event also marked the launch of OIC Roster of Statistics Experts (ROSE) which serves for hosting the profiles of professionals that work in the area of statistics. In this regard, H.E. Amb. KULAKLIKAYA underlined that the ROSE will be very effective in identifying the professionals by establishing a pool of statistical expertise.

The Directorate of Statistics of Morocco delivered a short presentation about the preparations towards the 61st World Statistics Congress that will be held on 16-21 July 2017 in Marrakech, Morocco.
