Training Course on ' Labour Statistics ' in Oman

In accordance with its 2016 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on ‘Labour Statistics’ at National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) of Sultanate of Oman on 18-20 April, 2016.

The Training Course was conducted by Mrs. Suha Alawneh, Director of Labour Statistics at Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) with the participation of 38 officials of the NCSI.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009); http://goo.gl/olg3Tz Labour Statistics – a statistical activity category under the Demographic and social statistics – covers statistics on labour force, labour market, employment and unemployment; the more detailed topics include economically active population, labour conditions, health and safety at work (accidents at work, occupational injuries and diseases, work-related health problems), working time and other working conditions, strikes and lockouts, job vacancies, job creation.

The course included discussion activities and covered the following topics:

  • Theoretical Concepts and Methodologies of the Labour Force Statistics
  • Assessment of data quality
  • Metadata of the Labour Force Statistics.
  • Labour Force indicators
  • Classification of Labour Force Statistics.
