Technical Training Workshop on ‘Confined Spaces’

In collaboration with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOHS) operating under the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia, SESRIC organised the practical and technical training course on "Confined Spaces" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 7-11 November 2016. The event aimed to form basis for mutual knowledge and experience sharing among member countries, and brought together 18 technical experts of 10 Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) authorities of the OIC Member Countries, namely, Albania, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Jordan, Mauritania, Oman, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey and Uganda.

The Technical Training Course commenced with the presentation of SESRIC and its Activities by Mr. Mansur Boydaş, Training Expert of the Training and Technical Cooperation Department. This practical and technical training course on "Confined Spaces" was intended to provide engineers and safety personnel who are engaged in supervising confined spaces work with the essential techniques of risk assessment and proper control measure.

The five day Technical Training Course focused on the following topics:

  • Introduction to Confined Space and Related Malaysian Legislation
  • Hazards in Confined Spaces
  • Procedure of Entry, Permit to Work & Equipment
  • Confined Space Risk Assessment
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Ventilation System
  • Gas Detection System
  • Respiratory Protection Device
  • Visit to Calibration Lab
  • Written Assessment
  • Practical Assessment
  • Demo Rescue at Height

Trainees were awarded with a "Certificate of Attendance" and “Competency Card” at the end of the course.
