Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics’ in Brunei

Venue: Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei

In accordance with its 2016 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC has organised the Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics’ at Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) of Brunei Darussalam on 20-22 September 2016.

The Training Course was conducted by Ms. Tan Bee Bee, Director of External Trade Statistics Division of Department of Statistics (DOS) of Malaysia with the participation of 31 officials of the JPKE.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); International trade – covered topics like trade in goods and services, external positions and debt, foreign direct investment, foreign affiliated trade, tariffs, market access, foreign aid, development assistance, resource flows to developing countries.

The Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) 2010
  • Scope and Time Recording, Trade System
  • Commodity Classifications, Valuation, and Quantity Measurement
  • Partner Country, Mode of Transport, and Data Compilation Strategies
  • Data Quality and Metadata, Dissemination
  • Compilation of IMTS: Malaysia Experience
