Training Course on ‘Diversification of Agro-Forestry and Reforestation’

SESRIC organised a Training Course on “Diversification of Agro-Forestry and Reforestation” within the framework of the Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB) in Male, Maldives on 14-15 November 2016.

The course was provided by Dr. Muhammad Zubair Associate Professor at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Pakistan. The target group of this training course was the experts from Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and Energy, Faculty of Science Maldives National University, Environment Protection Agency and Mangroves for the future project /UNDP Maldives, Blue Peace Environmental NGO Maldives and Commerce, Development and Environment (CDE) Consulting Maldives.

The training course mainly focused on the following topics:

  • Agroforestry and diversification
  • Models/dimensions of diversified agroforestry systems
  • Resilience of agroforestry system to climate vulnerabilities
  • Valuation of diversified agroforestry practices
  • Guidelines for developing diversified agroforestry modules for Maldives
  • Development of a site specific sustainable diversified agroforestry components module
  • Reforestation and
  • best reforestation practices
  • Reforestation for carbon
  • Adopting agroforestry interventions and reforestation practices: role of cognitive components and extension
  • Participatory designing of a reforestation program for Maldives
