Training Course on 'Health Statistics' in Sudan

In accordance with its 2016 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on 'Health Statistics' at Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) of Republic of the Sudan on 25-29 December 2016.

The Training Course was conducted by Mr. Rami ALDIBS, Director of the Health Statistical Department at the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) of Palestine, with the participation of 30 officials of CBS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Health covers the health and mortality related statistical activities, including topics like life expectancy, health status, health and safety, health determinants (including lifestyle, nutrition, smoking, alcohol abuse), health resources and expenditure, health care systems, morbidity and mortality (including infant and child mortality), hospital admission, causes of illness and death, specific diseases (e.g. AIDS), disabilities, pharmaceutical consumption and sales, health personnel, remuneration of health professions, environmental health status, health inequality and health accounts.

The Training Course on 'Health Statistics' included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to Health Statistics,
  • Health Statistics, Definitions and Concepts,
  • Importance of Statistical Figures in the Planning and Community Development,
  • National Health Information System,
  • Introduction to Data Sources,
  • Health Data Sources, Types, and Related Surveys,
  • Health Indicators: Definitions and Measuring,
  • Collecting Health Data (Different Sources),
  • Data Processing and Controlling Quality,
  • Disability Statistical, Concepts, and Data Sources,
  • Short and Extended Questions of Disability,
  • Types of Disability,
  • Objectives of Sustainable Development Indicators, and
  • Analyse Statistical and Using in the Decision Making Process
