Training Course on ‘Tourism Satellite Account’ in Suriname

In accordance with its 2016 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC has organised the Training Course on ‘Tourism Satellite Account’ at Suriname Tourism Foundation of Republic of Suriname on 14-16 February 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Ms. Kanageswary Ramasamy, Deputy Director of National Accounts Statistics Division of Department of Statistics of Malaysia, with the participation of 15 officials of the Suriname Tourism Foundation.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Tourism – covers statistics regarding visitor activity (such as arrivals/departures, overnight stays, expenditures, purpose of the visit, etc.) associated to different forms of tourism (inbound, domestic and outbound), tourism industries activity and infrastructure, employment and tourism satellite accounts.

The Training Course on ‘Tourism Satellite Account’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • System of Tourism Statistics
  • System of National Accounts (SNA)
  • Manual and Guidelines of Tourism Statistics
  • Inbound Tourism Statistics
  • Domestic Tourism Statistics
  • Outbound Tourism Statistics
  • Tourism Industries Statistics
  • Employment in the Tourism Industries and Gross Fixed Capital Formation of Tourism Industries (TGFCF)
  • Tourism Satellite Account
  • Malaysia’s TSA Performance
