Subregional Workshop on Data and Statistics for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for High-Level Official Statisticians

The United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP) in collaboration with the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan organised the Subregional Workshop on Data and Statistics for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for High-Level Official Statisticians on 30-31 May 2017 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Dr. Atilla Karaman, Researcher at Statistics and Information Department of SESRIC, represented the Centre thereat.

The objective of the Workshop was to enhance the capacity of heads of National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and their senior managers to provide leadership of National Statistical Systems (NSSs) to prioritize actions for the accelerated development of a solid framework of SDGs indicators and statistical data meeting the requirements of the 2030 Agenda, with a focus on the need to enhance the skills base of staff through various activities.

The workshop brought together the heads and senior managers of not only the NSOs of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Belarus, Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan but also the officials from the relevant line Ministries of the Republic of Azerbaijan to exchange experiences and lessons from national SDG data readiness assessments, mappings of national indicators to the global framework, and the design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of National Strategies for the Developments of Statistics (NSDSs).
