Training Course on ‘Education Statistics’ in Pakistan

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on ‘Education Statistics’ at Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on 11 – 13 September 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Ms. Riyanti SAARI, expert from Department of Statistics (DoS) of Malaysia, with the participation of 15 officials of the PBS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Education Statistics – includes educational participation, illiteracy, educational institutions and systems, human and financial resources invested in education, lifelong learning, vocational training and adult learning, impact of education, assessments of student performance, etc.

The Training Course on ‘Education Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction of education statistics
  • Overview of DOSM education statistics
  • Education indicator
  • Method of calculation for education indicators - definition
  • Pakistan scenario in compiling education statistics in Pakistan
  • Measuring SDG 4
  • Statistical communication
