Turkey was listed as the top donor country in the world in 2017 in providing humanitarian aid to the people in need around the world, according to a recent report published by “Development Initiative”, an independent international development organization based in London, UK.

Turkey has continuously increased its humanitarian aid budget by maintaining its leading position as the “most generous nation” in the world with a 0.85 percent ratio between its national income and humanitarian assistance.

Turkey also hosts the highest number of refugees in the world – nearly 3.9 million, according to official data. Most of the refugees living in the country are Syrians, around 3.6 million as of May 2018.

The report was prepared with the contribution of several international and national institutions such as United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
