Statistics Course on ‘Analytical and Critical Thinking’ in Uganda

In accordance with its 2018 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Statistics Course on ‘Analytical and Critical Thinking’ at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on 03-04 September 2018.

Mr. Omar C. F. Kebbeh, A, statistician at Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBOS), conducted the Statistics Course with the participation of 43 officials of UBOS of Republic of Uganda.

The Statistics Course on ‘Analytical and Critical Thinking’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Setting up Ground Rules and other Logistics;
  • Overview/Definitions of Analytical and Critical Thinking;
  • Understanding Analytical and Critical Thinking;
  • Group Discussions and/or Presentations;
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills—similarities and difference;
  • Importance and Benefits of Analytical and Critical Thinking;
  • Challenges and Opportunity for Critical Analysis in the Assessment/ National Statistics System (NSS); and
  • Practical application of Analytical and Critical Thinking skills in statistical production
