SESRIC Received Experts on Occupational Health and Safety

SESRIC received a delegation comprised of experts on occupational health and safety from OIC Member Countries on 25 May 2010, as part of the OIC-VET Pilot Project titled “Study visit on Occupational Health and Safety”, which was jointly organised by SESRIC and the Turkish Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (İSGÜM) in Ankara, Turkey. Members of the delegation were experts from the Arab Labour Organisation, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Libya and Pakistan.

SESRIC representatives expressed their thanks and welcome to the delegates and underlined the importance of occupational health and safety in OIC Member Countries, in particular the need for cooperation and collaboration among relevant similar agencies.

The delegates were then briefed about the activities of the Centre by the heads of technical departments in the three areas of mandate: research, statistics and training. They were also provided with some insight about the statistical tools recently developed and available to the public through the SESRIC website, and they were informed about the latest publications of the Centre available both online and in hard copy.

They were further informed about the OIC-VET Programme under which this study visit is being conducted, and about its aims and objectives for the benefit of Member Countries. In this regard, SESRIC has expressed its readiness to cooperate with occupational health and safety centres in OIC Member Countries to strengthen the capacity of the relevant institutions.

Members of the delegation expressed their thanks and gratitude to SESRIC for organising this significant study visit and articulated their willingness to improve their relationship with the Centre.
