Dr. Savaş Alpay, Director General of SESRIC, visited ISESCO

Dr. Savaş Alpay, Director General of SESRIC, and Mr. Hüseyin Hakan Eryetli, Director of IT and Publications, visited Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), at the ISESCO headquarters, in Rabat, Morocco on 15 June 2011.

During the meeting, Dr. Alpay expressed his thanks to Dr Altwaijri for receiving SESRIC while both sides expressed their mutual goodwill and discussed ways and means of cooperation between the two institutions on areas of common interest within the framework of the mandates of both organizations.

Following the bilateral meeting, Mr. Eryetli made a presentation on SESRIC’s recent and ongoing activities under its three mandates namely statistics, socio-economic research and training and technical cooperation. Ready during the presentation were Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Deputy Director General of ISESCO, Dr. Ahmed Said Ould Bah, Director of External Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Faiq Bilal, Director of Science, Ms. Wafaa Al Alami, Head of ISESCO Centre for Promotion of Scientific Research (ICPSR) and Dr. Mustapfa Ahmed Ali, Director of Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW). Mr. Eryetli also introduced SESRIC’s statistics database BASEIND and detailed various indicators highlighting those under the Education category. He also demonstrated SESRIC Motion Charts, a statistical application developed by SESRIC, which allows users to dynamically explore the trends of several indicators over time, based on live statistical data hosted in the BASEIND Database. Participants commented that these statistical tools of SESRIC would be very beneficial in their own research areas.

After the presentation, Dr. Alpay briefed the participants on SESRIC's activities, including OIC-VET Programme and Atlas Project. Dr. Alpay invited ISESCO to the Third Monitoring and Advisory Committee Meeting of OIC-VET to be held on 16-20 July 2011, in Iran. Dr. Alpay also informed the participants about SESRIC’s role as co-manager together with Royal Society, in the Atlas Project. Parties discussed potential collaboration activities under the framework of the Atlas Project.
