The Centre hosted a seminar titled “Do Natural Resources Lower the Incentive to Invest in Human Capital? A Theoretical and Empirical Approach” on 11 February 2013 in its headquarters. The seminar was delivered by Mr. Salim Mahmoud Araji, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA.

The presentation focused on the questions whether the citizens in countries with rich natural resources enjoy increased opportunities and a better future and, also, whether the natural resources pose the risk of distorting the process of economic development. During his talk, Mr. Araji discussed the growth and development process of nations that are rich in resources and the role of natural resource rents in the incentive to invest in human capital. The seminar lasted for about one-hour and also featured a Q&A session.
