Training Programme on 'Risk Management in Islamic Banking' at the Central Bank of Republic of Turkey

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training programme on “Risk Management in Islamic Banking” at the Central Bank of Republic of Turkey on 3-5 June 2013, within the framework of OIC Central Banks Capacity Building Programme. The Course was provided by Mr. Rifki Ismal, expert of the Bank Indonesia with participation of relevant experts of Central Bank of Republic of Turkey.

The training course on “Risk Management in Islamic Banking” covered the following areas:

I. Types and Characteristics Risks in Banking Operations

  • Financial risk (such as credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk)
  • Business risk (such as management risk, strategic risk)
  • Operational Risk (such as people risk, legal risk, external risk, legal risk, equity investment risk).

II. Islamic Banking Principles and Economic/non Economic Factors Leading to Risks

  • Islamic banking principles and operations related to risk management
  • External factors leading to various risk in Islamic banking
  • Internal factors leading to various risk in Islamic banking
  • Problems in handling risks in Islamic banking

III. Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) Guides on Risk Management in Islamic Financial Institutions

  • IFSB principles of market risk
  • IFSB principles of liquidity risk
  • IFSB principles of credit risk
