Training Course on 'Competition Law and Policy' in Azerbaijan

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training course on "Competition Law and Policy" within the framework of the OIC Capacity Building Programme for Competition Authorities (OIC-CA-CaB) on 3-4 April 2014 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The course was provided by Mrs. Fatma Ataç, Competition Expert, Turkish Competition Authority and was attended by experts from the State Service of Antimonopoly Policy and Protection Consumers Rights, Republic of Azerbaijan.

The training course mainly covered the following subjects:

  • Basics of Competition Law
  • Cartel Theory, Basic concepts, Cartel Enforcement, Fines, Leniency
  • The Concept of Concentration
  • The Reason Behind Mergers
  • Purpose of Merger Control
  • Horizontal and Vertical Mergers
  • Conglomerate Mergers, Efficiency Considerations and defences
  • Designing a Merger Control System
