The Islamic Conference of Health Ministers (ICHM) convenes once every two years to discuss the priority health issues of Muslim communities and review different aspects of the health status in OIC Member Countries, including health developments and situations, concerns, requirements and priorities. The First Conference of the Health Ministers was convened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 12 – 15 June 2007.

The Sixth Meeting of the OIC Steering Committee on Health will be hosted by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia on 23 – 24 April 2013 at Jakarta. The meeting will, inter alia, discuss the implementation of the decisions and resolutions adopted by the Islamic Conferences of Health Ministers, draft OIC Strategic Health Programme of Action 2013 – 2022, preparation of implementation plan for OIC-SHPA, promoting self-reliance in production of medicine and vaccines and the preparations for the 4th Islamic Conference of Health Ministers to be hosted by the Republic of Indonesia in October 2013.

The Third Islamic Conference of Health Ministers (ICHM) was held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan on 29 September - 1 October 2011, on the theme of “Health, Wellbeing and Equality”. Delegates from 36 OIC Member States and various regional and international organizations participated in the Conference.

The 2nd Session of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers (ICHM) was held on 1 - 4 March 2009 in Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and hosted by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. Forty-five OIC Member States were present and twenty-two of the delegations were led by their respective Ministers of Health. The OIC General Secretariat and the related OIC institutions such as SESRIC, COMSTECH, IDB, ISESCO and health related international organisations such as WHO, UNICEF, UNAID, UNFPA, and the Global Fund were represented in the Conference.
