Research institutions are a frequent source for quantitative and qualitative work at national and international levels. Private and public organisations, as well as researchers themselves are constituent building blocks of the research institutions. Given the support they can harness from the philanthropic, local, national, regional, international and even supra-national levels, they are the incubators for the future of humanity. They are also important augmenting agents of sustainable economic development through innovation. They generate value by first setting the ground for theory and then converting the theory into practice by the use of intellectual assets they produced.
Although many OIC Member Countries are in need for increasing their research capacity and accumulated knowledge, recent years have witnessed the efforts of these countries to keep up with the technological changes through direct investment into the foundation of new research institutions and increasing their support to the already existing ones.
With the above in mind, the SESRIC has embarked on the task of compiling a Directory of Research Institutions in the OIC Member Countries. In fact, by enriching its database in the field of technical cooperation, the Centre aims to be instrumental in facilitating independent interaction among research institutions in the member countries. In addition to its value as a substantial reference source, the Directory is also intended as a basis for further studies considered by the Centre.
In the process of preparing the Directory, the Centre resorted to numerous sources, with a view to covering as many research institutions in the member countries as possible, and utmost care was taken to reach detailed and up-to-date information. We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks and gratitude to those member countries that, through their prompt replies, helped us update our information.
Needless to say, the directory is by no means complete. All suggestions made to enrich and update its content are most welcome.
