The Third Meeting of the COMCEC Transport Working Group was held on March 13th, 2014 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme “Developing Multimodal Freight Transport (MFT) Among OIC Member Countries”. The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 15 OIC Member States including Afghanistan, Djibouti, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Uganda. The Centre was represented thereat by Dr. Cem Tintin, Researcher. Representatives from the COMCEC Coordination Office, IDB (Islamic Development Bank), UIRR (International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport), UTIKAD (Association of International Forwarding and Logistics Service Providers) and KombiConsult also attended the Meeting.

At the working group meeting, COMCEC launched two new studies “COMCEC Transport Outlook 2014" and “Developing Multimodal Freight Transport (MFT) Among OIC Member Countries: Status of the Implementation of MFT among the OIC Member Countries”. During the meeting, delegates found opportunity to discuss and share their views on these studies’ findings and recommendations. The delegations also exchanged their views, achievements and experience on incentives mechanisms in the field of multimodal freight transport in their respective countries. In particular, Iran, Indonesia and Turkey reflected their country experiences with presentations in the afternoon session. The views of the private sector are shared by the representatives of UTIKAD and UIRR that enriched the discussions during the meeting.

The Fourth Meeting of the Transport Working Group will take place on September 11th, 2014 in Ankara, Turkey.
