Training Course on 'Science, Technology and Innovation Statistics' in Kazakhstan

In accordance with its 2014 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the Training Course on 'Science, Technology and Innovation Statistics' at the Agency on Statistics (AoS) in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan on 10-12 September 2014, within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The Course was provided by Mr. Devrim Yagan, Statistics Expert at the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) with the participation of relevant officials of the AoS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009), 'Science, technology and innovation Statistics' includes research and revelopment (R&D), innovation, patents, human resources (in science, technology and innovation), high tech industries and knowledge based services, biotechnology, financing of R&D and innovation.

The training course on ‘Science, technology and innovation Statistics'  also included discussion activities, and covered the following topics:

  • STI Policy System in Turkey
  • R&D Statistics -(Introductions to Frascati Manual)
  • Measurement of R&D Personnel
  • Measurement of Expenditure devoted to R&D
  • Government Budget Appropriations or Outlays on R&D (GBAORD)
  • Introduction to the Oslo Manual: Main Definitions
  • The Structure of Innovation Statistics
