The First Investment Forum on OIC Plan of Action for Cooperation with Central Asia

The First Investment Forum on OIC Plan of Action for Cooperation with Central Asia was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 27-28 October 2014 with the participation of H.E. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Iyad Ameen Madani, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, Esteemed Ministers from OIC Member States, Representatives of Relevant Ministries and National Institutions from OIC Member States, Representatives from the OIC Institutions (ICCIA, ICDT, SESRIC, SMIIC), international organisations and investment companies.

The Delegates at the Conference discussed the following agenda items during the working sessions:

  1. Developing transport corridor and energy infrastructure in Central Asia;
  2. Intensifying intra-OIC trade and investment in Central Asia;
  3. Capacity building and export promotion in the agro-food processing sector;
  4. Promoting SME’s Role in the tourism sector

At the outset, SESRIC was represented by Dr. Cem Tintin, Researcher at the Centre. Dr. Tintin made a presentation on the state of international tourism in OIC member countries. The presentation displayed selected indicators on the tourism figures and highlighted major prospects and challenges that OIC member countries experience in the tourism sector.

After all working sessions and discussions, the Forum concluded with the adoption of the “Report of the Forum” that provides a set of concrete proposals and recommendations to promote investment in Central Asia.
