Training Course on 'Price Statistics' in Afghanistan

In accordance with its 2014 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the Training Course on 'Price Statistics' at the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Kabul on 15-17 September 2014 within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The Course was conducted by Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Alipour, an expert of the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI) with participation of relevant officials of CSO of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009), Price Statistics includes topics like statistical activity dealing with prices, including Purchasing Power Parities (PPPs) and international comparisons of GDP, covers topics like Consumer Price Indices (CPI), inflation, Producer Price Indices (PPI), price indexes for specific products and services (e.g. Information and Communication Technology products).

The training course on ' Price Statistics ' included discussion activities and covered the following topics:

  • Concept and Definition
  • Data Source and Collection of Prices
  • Methodology and Calculation of CPI
