Technical Mission on 'Module 2: CPI Re-basing' to Afghanistan

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the technical mission on 'Module 2:  CPI Re-basing' to the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) of Afghanistan on 29 August – 4 September 2015, within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The mission was conducted by Mr. Mostafa Farrokhfal, Expert at the Statistical Centre of Iran.

The technical mission has been requested by the CSO of Afghanistan as it aims at extending the coverage of price statistics compilation from 10 to 34 provinces. In line with this plan, the CSO wants to re-base the CPI. In this regard, the first phase of the technical mission on 'CPI Re-Basing' to Afghanistan was successfully conducted from 13 to 19 June 2015.

The technical mission on 'Module 2:  CPI Re-basing' focused on the following topics:

  • Selecting CPI Items and Base Year;
  • Features of collected prices;
  • Taking price;
  • Technical notes about price index;
  • Calculating price index when some prices are missing;
  • Necessity of rebasing in CPI and select the new base year;
  • Calculating the price index for New base year with Laspeyres formula;
  • Calculating the price index for some Items through Direct Laspeyres formula;
