The 3rd Meeting of Lead Country Coordinators

The Third Meeting of Lead Country Coordinators (LCCs) was held on 14-15 November 2015 in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey. The meeting was attended by representatives of the LCCs, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Sudan, and Turkey as well as OIC General Secretariat and relevant OIC institutions.

The meeting agenda was structured around six thematic areas under the Strategic Health Programme of Action 2014-2023, where SESRIC briefed the august meeting on SESRIC’s activities in health area, in particular its research and capacity building initiatives in the area of health. Under Thematic Area on Maternal, Newborn, Child health and Nutrition, SESRIC reported on the status of OIC "Mother and Child Survival Project". This project aims at supporting selected OIC member countries in addressing high maternal and child mortality burdens by promoting the transfer of knowledge and expertise to the selected OIC member countries and ensuring they are in alignment with global practices in the areas of maternal and child survival.

During the meeting, SESRIC presented the Communication and Publicizing Strategy prepared in accordance with the decision of the 2nd Meeting of LCCs with a view to enhancing an effective communication and publicizing mechanism in overcoming challenges towards the implementation of the OIC SHPA. In this regard, the Meeting deeply discussed the strategy and further recommended submission of the revised document to the 5th ICHM for consideration and adoption.

The Meeting also reviewed the Concept paper on Resource Mobilization and recommended its submission to the 10th Meeting of the Steering Committee for consideration and submission to the 5th Session of ICHM for approval.
