7th Meeting of the COMCEC Poverty Alleviation Working Group

The 7th Meeting of the COMCEC Poverty Alleviation Working Group was held on 11 February 2016 in Ankara, Turkey under the "Accessibility of Vulnerable Groups to Social Protection Programmes in the OIC Member Countries" theme. Dr. Atilla Karaman from the Statistics and Information Department and Mr. Mazhar Hussain from the Economic and Social Research Department and Mr. Mansur Boydas from the Training and Technical Cooperation Department attended to the Meeting on behalf of the SESRIC. 

The Meeting covered six agenda items including:

  • COMCEC Poverty Outlook;
  • Importance of Social Protection Programmes for the Vulnerable Groups and the Relevant Current Social Protection Programmes in the OIC Member States;
  • Roundtable Discussion on the Policy Options for Improving Social Protection Programmes towards Vulnerable Groups in the OIC Member States;
  • Member State Presentations;
  • Perspective of international institutions / NGOs / Local Authorities; and
  • Utilizing the COMCEC Project Funding. 

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 15 OIC member countries including Afghanistan, Albania, Chad, Gabon, Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Niger, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Turkey. Besides COMCEC Coordination Office and SESRIC, representatives of the IDB, UNESCAP and Turkish Red Crescent Society also attended to the Meeting.
