Roundtable Meeting on ‘Strengthening Intra-OIC Cooperation for Development: The Role of SESRIC’
Date: 06 May 2016
Venue: Ankara - Türkiye

The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) hosted a Roundtable Meeting on “Strengthening Intra-OIC Cooperation for Development: The Role of SESRIC” with the participation of the Ambassadors of the OIC Member Countries in Ankara on 06 May 2016 .

The Roundtable Meeting aimed to exchange views on ways and means of strengthening technical cooperation among OIC member countries in various fields and areas of interest; provide recommendations on some new modalities and approaches for enhancing the role of SESRIC in the mandated area of technical cooperation; and explore some scenarios for partnership in specific activities and programmes with relevant national, international, regional institutions.

At its 38th year of existence and active involvement, SESRIC is increasingly solicited to put its accumulated experience and acquired know-how at the service of the Organisation and its member countries as reflected in the ever-expanding scope of activities it carries. Despite certain improvements and successes in OIC region during recent years, member countries are still experiencing many obstacles to benefit in full potential from cooperation initiatives and projects due to a host of factors including supply-side constraints, difficulties in timely adoption of critical changes and lack of adequate human capital.

It is therefore in this context that the Meeting explored innovative support and cooperation mechanisms, and a collective and progressive approach, which would address these challenges and enable member countries to reap the full benefits offered by the Centre in a more globalised and interdependent environment.
