Training Course on 'Science, Technology, and Innovation Statistics' in Azerbaijan

In accordance with its 2016 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on 'Science, Technology, and Innovation Statistics' at the State Statistical Committee (SSC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 27-28 September 2016.

The Training Course was conducted by Mr. Devrim YAĞAN, an Expert from Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) of the Republic of Turkey, with the participation of 6 officials of SSC.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Science, Technology and Innovation – covers statistics on Research and Development (R&D), innovation, patents, human resources (in science, technology and innovation), high-tech industries and knowledge based services, biotechnology, and financing of R&D and innovation.

The Training Course on 'Science, Technology, and Innovation Statistics' included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • R&D Statistics –Introduction to Frascati Manual,
  • Measurement of Expenditure Devoted to R&D,
  • Latest News and Developments
  • Government Budget Appropriations or Outlays on R&D (GBAORD),
  • Introduction to the Oslo Manual: Main definitions, and
  • The Structure of Innovation Statistics.
