Training Course on 'Banking, Insurance, and Financial Statistics' in Bangladesh

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC has organised the Training Course on ‘Banking, Insurance, and Financial Statistics' at Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) of People's Republic of Bangladesh on 8-11 January 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Ms. Moorashin JAVAN, Expert on Financial Statistics at the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI), with the participation of 20 officials of BBS of Bangladesh.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz)); Banking, insurance, and financial statistics-covers money, banking and financial market statistics, including financial accounts, money supply, interest rates, exchange rates, stock market indicators, securities, bank profitability, private sector insurance and pension fund statistics, and financial soundness indicators.

The Training Course on 'Banking, Insurance, and Financial Statistics' included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Institutional units & sectors
  • Production accounts
  • Valuation of output
  • Financial sectors and sub-sectors
  • Financial production
  • Classification of financial assets and liabilities
  • Valuation of transactions
  • Measurement of FISIM
  • Head offices and holding companies
  • Issue of the Central Bank
  • Life and non-life Insurance and Re-insurance
  • Social Security: pension and non-pension schemes
  • Standardized guarantees
