Training Course on ‘Population and Migration Statistics’ in Benin

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on ‘Population and Migration Statistics’ at National Institute of Statistics and Economic Analysis (INSAE) of Republic of Benin on 28 March – 30 March 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Mr. Djiby Diop, Expert from National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD) of Republic of Senegal, with the participation of 21 officials of the INSAE.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Population and migration statistics – covers work in population and demographic statistics, topics like demography, vital statistics, population structures and growth, demographic projections, families and households (marriages, divorces, household size), migration, refugees and asylum seekers.

The Training Course on ‘Population and Migration Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • General concepts and definitions
  • Sampling methods in migration surveys
  • Use of administrative sources for the calculation of migration indicators
  • Calculation of migration indicators from survey data
