Training Course on ‘Transport Statistics’ in Uganda

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Training Course on ‘Transport Statistics’ at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on 9-10 August 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Mr. Adakole Augustine SAMUEL, Statistician at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with the participation of relevant officials of the UBOS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Transport statistics covers statistics on all modes of transport (air, rail, road, inland waterways, sea), includes topics like transport infrastructure, equipment, traffic flows, personal mobility, safety, energy consumption, transport enterprises, passengers and freight transport, transport sector trends, road traffic accidents.

The Training Course on ‘Transport Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Definitions, Concepts and Classification of Transportation System
  • Transportation Infrastructure
  • Transportation Economics
  • Transportation System Indicators and Performance Measurement
  • Reporting on Transportation Statistics
