Statistics Course on ‘Data Analysis' in Maldives

In accordance with its 2018 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Statistics Course on ‘Data Analysis’ at National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of Maldives on 25 – 27 March 2018. 

The Statistics Course was conducted by Mr. Muhammad Arfan DILBER, Expert from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), with the participation of 13 officials of the NBS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Data Analysis – covers methods of data analysis in official statistics for other purposes than editing/quality management, e.g. seasonal adjustment, methods for constructing composite indicators, identification of causal factors, extrapolation, scenario and model building etc.

The Statistics Course on ‘Data Analysis’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Overview of Research Methods and Techniques,
  • Descriptive Statistics,
  • Restricting and generating variables Housekeeping,
  • Basic Statistical Analysis.
  • Brief History of Stata, and
  • Data editor, Syntax editor, Output viewer.
