Statistics Course on ‘Environment Statistics’ in Azerbaijan

SESRIC organised a Statistics Course on ‘Environment Statistics' on 10-12 December 2018 at the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SSC) within the framework of OIC Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme.

Mr. Hüseyin Şentürk, Expert at Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), conducted the course with the participation of 4 officials of the SSC of Azerbaijan.

The statistics course included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to environmental accounts
  • Definitions and classifications: Goals of EPEA, Classification of Environmental Protection Activities (CEPA), Classification of Resource Management Activities (CReMA), borderline cases, institutional units
  • EPEA Characteristics: Characteristics for general government and specialized and secondary environmental protection services; characteristics for corporations, households and for adjustment from basic price to purchasers price
  • Data Sources for EPEA: National Accounts, Structural Business Statistics, SPECIAL surveys, etc.
  • Introduction to Water Accounts: Basic concepts and definitions, indicators, statistical units, classifications
  • Physical Supply and Use Tables (PSUT): Concepts, standard tables of SEEA Water, supplementary tables, some data recording issues
  • PSUT Exercise
