Study Visit on ‘Developing Successful Employment and Skills Policies and Strategies’

SESRIC organized a Study Visit on “Developing a Successful Employment and Skills Policies and Strategies” on 18-20 September 2019 in Ankara, Republic of Turkey for the researchers from the Centre of Manpower Research and Development of the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia.

The main objective of the study visit was to improve knowledge, analytical techniques, and skills of researchers regarding developing policies and strategies to improve employment and empower people in the labour market.

The three-day program included visits to various Turkish institutions, including the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services; the Turkish Employment Agency; the Turkish Statistical Institute; International Labor Organization (ILO) Turkey; the Presidency of Strategy and Budget; and the Ministry of National Education of Turkey.

The main themes presented and discussed during the study visit were as following:

  • Public Employment Services and Active Labor Market Policies in the World and Turkey
  • Labor Policies and Strategies
  • Statistical Approaches in Predicting the Labor Market
  • Tools for Anticipation of Future Skill Needs and Reducing Skill Mismatch
  • Public Employment Services and Skill Development Towards Enhanced Employment and Entrepreneurship
  • National Development Planning and Employment Targeting Policies
  • Methodology of Household Labor Force Survey
  • Skill Development, Re-skilling and Up-skilling in the VET System

During their visit to SESRIC headquarters, the delegation was briefed about the mandates and activities of the Centre, and heard a presentation on “State of Labour Market in OIC Member Countries”. Representatives of both institutions also discussed ways and means for further cooperation between the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia and SESRIC.
