Webinar on ‘Enhancing Food Security in OIC Countries: An Overview of the Food Balance Sheets’

Within its recently initiated Webinar Series on Statistical Experience Sharing, SESRIC organised its second webinar titled “Enhancing Food Security in OIC Countries: An Overview of the Food Balance Sheets” on 24 November 2020 in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the participation of 44 attendees from 19 OIC member countries (Azerbaijan, Brunei, Egypt, Gabon, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Suriname, Turkey, UAE, Uzbekistan, and Yemen) and two international organisations (Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and Economic Cooperation Organization Regional Coordination Centre for Food Security (ECO-RCC)).

After the welcoming remarks by SESRIC and FAO, Mr. Salar Tayyib, Senior Statistician and Team Leader of Crops, Livestock and Food Statistics at FAO together with Ms. Rachele Brivio and Mr. Tomasz Filipczuk, Food Balance Sheet (FBS) experts at FAO, introduced the new FBS methodology including its links with the SDGs to the participants during the two webinar rounds (morning and afternoon) held to facilitate the participation of attendees from different time zones.

The webinar was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
