Online Training Course on ‘SDG 5 Indicators’

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised an online training course on ‘SDG 5 Indicators’ for the benefit of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) of Kuwait on 08-10 December 2020.

Mrs. Reem Ismaeil from the Censuses and Population Statistics Unit and Mr. Mohamed Ahmed AbdelWahab from the Mobilization and Economic Statistics Unit of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) of Egypt jointly conducted the course with the participation of the officials from CSB of Kuwait working as members of the team for monitoring and following up the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition to CSB of Kuwait, experts from the NSOs of 7 OIC countries including Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Oman and Yemen joined the online training course as well.

The online training course included hands-on exercises and discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Moving from MDGs to SDGs
  • Reviewing the SDGs (2015-2030): Goals – Targets – Indicators
  • Explaining SDG 5
  • Main concepts related to gender
  • Gender issues in society
  • Gender statistics and the data required for calculating SDG 5 indicators
  • Methods and applications on the calculation of SDG 5 indicators

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
