Third General Assembly Meeting of Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS)

The 3rd General Assembly of IOFS was held virtually online and technically hosted by the Republic of Turkey on December 2-3, 2020 with the theme of “Building up Food Security Resilience within the OIC Region.” The meeting covered the following agenda items: Membership, Administrative, Financial Matters; OIC Plan of Action on Development of Strategic Commodities; Establishment of the OIC Food Security Reserve: Establishment of the Islamic Food Processing Association; Food Security Governance ; IOFS Programmes on Science, Technology and Innovation; Agri-Food Trade and Investment Promotion; Food Humanitarian Programmes; Enhancement of IOFS Food Balance Database; Any Other Business and Date and Venue of 4th General Assembly.

The first day was dedicated to the Senior Officials Meeting (preparatory to the Ministerial Session) which was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Akif Ozkeldi. SESRIC participated in the Senior Officials Meeting and made an intervention in which SESRIC expressed its readiness to support the efforts of IOFS towards enhancing the Food balance Database and implementing activities and programmes in the area of agriculture, food security, water and environment.

The second day was dedicated to the Ministerial Session which was Chaired by the Republic of Turkey represented by H.E Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry who delivered an official speech on behalf of H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan the President of the Republic of Turkey.

SESRIC had the privilege of addressing the Ministerial Session in which the DG of SESRIC H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR shared a brief snapshot of the Centre’s activities in the areas supporting the goals and objectives of the IOFS.
