Online Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics and Balance of Payments’

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised an Online Training Course on ‘International Trade Statistics and Balance of Payments’ with the participation of 23 attendees from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and relevant Ministries of 6 OIC countries on 08-11 February 2021.

Mr. Adama SECK, Head of National Accounts Department at the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) of Senegal, conducted the course and covered the following topics:

  • Concepts and Definitions of International Trade Statistics
  • Concepts, Definitions, Structures, Headings, and Principles of Balance of Payments (BOP) Compilation
  • Translation of the various transactions and operations of the BOP into the nomenclature of the National Accounting system
  • Case studies on dividends and reinvested earnings
  • Case studies on the treatment of Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) – Free on Board (FOB) correction and territorial correction
  • BOP and international trade account
  • BOP as an economic analysis tool

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
