Online Training Course on ‘Transport Statistics’ for the Benefit of Guinea

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised an Online Training Course on ‘Transport Statistics’ for the benefit of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) of Guinea on 15-18 March 2021.

Mr. Jean Paul DIAGNE, Head of the Bureau of Sectoral Statistics at Directorate of Economic Statistics and National Accounts of the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) of Senegal, conducted the course with the participation of 21 officials of the INS and Ministry of Transport of Guinea. Moreover, experts from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) as well as Ministries of Transport of 7 additional OIC countries, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Morocco, Niger and Togo joined the online training course as well.

The Online Training Course covered the following topics:

  • Institutional framework for the production of transport statistics
  • Definitions and basic concepts in transport statistics
  • Data sources for collecting transport statistics
  • Collection and processing method
  • Calculation of transport indicators
  • Assessment of the quality of transport data
  • Analysis of transport data (SES transport)

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
