Online Training Course on ‘Gender and Special Population Groups Statistics’

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised an Online Training Course on ‘Gender and Special Population Groups Statistics’ with the participation of 9 attendees from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of 2 OIC countries on 18-19 March 2021.

Ms. Ainur DOSSANOVA, Head of Division on SDGs Statistics of the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted the course. During the 2-day online course, one representative from UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia delivered a presentation on the international standards and recommendations as well as the main data sources for the production of gender statistics.

The Online Training Course covered the following topics:

  • The concepts of ‘gender’ and ‘gender statistics’
  • The history of the emergence of gender statistics in Kazakhstan
  • Collection and processing method
  • International standards and recommendations
  • Data sources. Introduction of new indicators and new surveys:
    • Time-Use Survey
    • Violence Against Women Survey
    • Generations and Gender Survey
  • Dissemination of gender statistics data
  • Experience on interacting with users and data producers

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
