Venue: Virtual-SESRIC, Ankara - Türkiye

Within the framework of SESRIC’s Stock Exchanges Capacity Building Programme (SE-CaB), the Centre organised a Training Course on “Sukuk Issuance in Islamic Capital Markets” on 31 May-02 June 2021 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was provided by a competent expert from the Securities Commission of Malaysia for the benefit of 42 experts and executives from Securities and Exchange Commissions, Central Banks, Stock Exchanges, Capital Markets Boards, Ministries of Economy and Finance, and other relevant Ministries of 13 OIC member countries.

The main objective of the training course was to provide participants with extensive knowledge and understanding of Islamic Capital Markets, the regulatory framework for Sukuk and Shariah governance framework and Sukuk structures.

In his speech at the opening session, Mr. Fadi Abdullah FARASIN, Assistant Director General of SESRIC, highlighted that Islamic finance has been overgrown in the global finance industry. Various Islamic financial instruments and products have started to be used both in OIC and non-OIC member countries. The Sukuk market has become one of the fastest-growing Islamic Financial Services Industry segments, he added.

In addition, Mr FARASIN briefed the participants on the most recent statistics on Sukuk issuance in the OIC member countries. He stressed the importance of improving this segment through efficient exchange of knowledge and expertise among the relevant authorities towards harnessing the full potential of Islamic financial markets in the OIC member countries.

This training course was designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this challenging time of global crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
