Within the framework of the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) and in line with the OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025, SESRIC organised a Workshop on “Digitalization of TVET: Challenges and Opportunities for the OIC Member Countries” on 18-19 July 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

Valuable speakers from various national, OIC and international Institutions delivered presentations highlighting the obstacles that hinder the digitalization efforts in general, and particularly in TVET sector, as well as the good practices and initiatives carried out by their institutions. The workshop brought together 135 experts and executives from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authorities and relevant national institutions of 22 OIC Member Countries.

The main aim of the workshop was to discuss the challenges that face the OIC Member Countries in the digitalization of TVET and offer pertinent solutions towards more inclusive TVET systems that address labour market needs. Furthermore, the activity aimed to highlight good practices and success stories from the member countries in digitalization of TVET and the prospects of utilization of digital transformation.

The workshop consisted of sessions with the following headings:

  • From Policy to Practice: Implementing Digital Strategies in TVET
  • Entrepreneurial Skills Development for the SDGs – Supporting TVET Institutions via HP LIFE Global Support Programme
  • Digital Competence and the Future of TVET in OIC Member Countries
  • Country Experience Session: Sharing Best Practices in Digitalization of TVET

As an initiative of SESRIC, the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) was launched in 2009 at the COMCEC Economic Summit in Istanbul, Türkiye. The main aim of the programme was to enhance the quality of TVET systems in the OIC Member Countries, as well as to assist them in their efforts to overcome challenges and constraints in the TVET sector. Within the framework of the OIC-VET Programme and in line with its Strategic Roadmap for the years 2020-2025, SESRIC, in its capacity as the Executing OIC Organ of the Programme, initiated and implemented various capacity-building training activities by facilitating the transfer and exchange of know-how, knowledge, and experience among the national TVET institutions in the OIC Member Countries. These activities covered a diverse range of topics, including entrepreneurship skills development, and embraced a blended model of delivery approach by combining face-to-face and virtual for increased efficiency and flexibility.
