Training Course on 'Social Protection Statistics'

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Training Course on 'Social Protection Statistics' with the attendance of 19 participants from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of 10 Arabic speaking OIC countries on 09-10 August 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

Mrs. Walaa Elsharkawy and Mr. Ahmed Gamal, Statisticians at the Department of Censuses and Population Statistics of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) of Egypt, conducted the course and covered the following topics:

  • Social Protection Concepts
  • Social Protection Umbrella
  • The role of data in determining the most vulnerable groups
    • Targeting the most needy families using income and expenditure research data
    • Targeting the most needy areas using the research data for the characteristics of the local community
    • Other demographic statistics
  • Types of social protection
  • Social protection programs for vulnerable families
  • Social protection programs for rural areas
  • Social health protection programs
  • Social protection programs for women
  • Social Protection Initiatives
  • Monitoring the effects of social protection programs

The SESRIC StatCaB Programme was initiated in early 2007. It is the flagship capacity development programme of SESRIC. Within the framework of StatCaB Programme, the Centre collects information from the NSOs of OIC member countries through the biennial StatCaB Questionnaire, assesses their statistical training needs and capacities, matches these needs and capacities, and organizes statistical capacity development activities between the beneficiary and provider countries.
