SESRIC and UNCTAD organized a Session on ‘Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Statistics in OIC Countries’

SESRIC and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) jointly organised a Session on ‘Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Statistics in OIC Countries’ in OIC countries on 16 October 2023 on the margins of the 8th World Investment Forum (WIF8) held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The session was attended by the 45 official statisticians working in national statistical offices, central banks and investment promotion agencies of the OIC countries.

H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK addressed the Session highlighting the importance of quality FDI data and the need for collaboration among the national stakeolders. In her remarks, H.E. SELÇUK also shared with the audience about the current efforts of the Centre in this regard as well as reiterated the readiness of SESRIC to improve further the human and institutional capacities of the OIC countries in the filed of FDI statistics by means of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) and Central Banks Capacity Building (CB-CaB) Programmes.

Dr. Atilla KARAMAN, Director of Statistics and Information Department of SESRIC has delivered a presentation titled as “Investment Outlook in the OIC Countries” sharing the lates figures and data on the current stance of the OIC countries with respect to investment performance and ecosystems in the OIC countries by highlighting the major issues and challenges.

The Session continued with the presentations of UNCTAD as well as Central Banks of Switzerland and Italy, and the Financial Times about the definitions and methodologies in FDI/MNE statistics and Challenges in collecting greenfield investment projects.
