SESRIC attended the 21st Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group held with the theme of “Improving E-Commerce Capacities of the OIC Member Countries” on 16-17 October 2023 in Ankara, Türkiye.

The meeting brought together focal points from 20 OIC Member Countries that are members of the COMCEC Trade Working Group as well as the representatives of the OIC Institutions namely SESRIC, Islamic Center for Trade Development (ICDT), Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) and the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), besides OIC Institutions, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and from the private sector GETIR.

The technical sessions of the meeting included deliberations on the COMCEC Trade Outlook Report. Followed by the Draft Research Report of COMCEC on “Improving E-Commerce Capacities of the OIC Member Countries”.

SESRIC has briefed the representatives of the working group about the reports and activities of the Centre on statistics, socio-economic research, training and technical cooperation which are conducted with an aim to reflecting the current stance of OIC countries in the field of trade and improving their national capacities in this regard. Besides, participating member countries and international institutions delivered presentations highlighting the lessons learned from selected case studies as well as experiences and perspectives on the theme of the meeting.

The meeting continued with the policy debate session among the participating delegates focusing on the formulation of policy recommendations for the 39th COMCEC Ministerial Session.
