SESRIC Delegation Visits the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi

A SESRIC delegation, headed by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK paid a courtesy visit to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on 17 October 2023 in Abu Dhabi.

The main objective of this visit was to explore potential areas of collaboration between SESRIC and IRENA, with the aim of contributing to the efforts of OIC countries with regard to renewable energy.

During the meeting, Ms. Gauri SINGH, Deputy Director General of IRENA, provided an informative overview of IRENA and its activities in promoting sustainable development, energy access, energy security, and low-carbon economic growth. IRENA’s mission includes the adoption and sustainable use of various forms of renewable energy, encompassing bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar, and wind energy. Furthermore, IRENA actively engages in knowledge-sharing partnerships to foster these goals.

H.E. SELÇUK, in turn, mentioned about SESRIC’s work and initiatives in statistics, socio-economic research, training and technical cooperation. She expressed SESRIC’s willingness to organize joint capacity-building activities, especially within the framework of its existing programmes, focusing on renewable and sustainable energy solutions and energy statistics.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their readiness for potential collaborations in areas of shared interest.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international co-operation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy.
