SESRIC Attends the 42nd Session of CCSA

The 42nd Session of the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA) was held at the World Health Organisation (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on 12-13 October 2023. Dr. Atilla KARAMAN, Director of Statistics and Information represented the Centre thereat.

The Session considered the data activities of the WHO (as host organisation presentation), number of households as denominator, IAEG-SDG (Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators) preparation for Comprehensive Review in 2025, modes of delivering technical assistance, data and AI for sustainable development, Friends of the Chair on Social and Demographic Statistics, and extending the EMOS Programme beyond Europe. UNDP and UN Women also covered their work on twin indices on women’s empowerment and gender equality.

The co-chairs updated the members about the outcomes of the CCS-UN (Committee of the Chief Statisticians of the United Nations System) meeting on 11 October 2023 in Geneva. It was announced that the 43rd Session of the CCSA will be held in New York on the sidelines of the 55th Session of UN Statistical Commission in February 2024.

The CCSA promotes interagency coordination on statistical programmes and consistency in statistical practices and development. As a forum of committed members, it fosters good practices in statistical activities of international organisations in accordance with the Principles Governing International Statistical Activities, and within the constraints of their own governance arrangements and resource envelopes. The 45 UN and non-UN agency members of the CCSA are committed to contribute actively to the development of a coordinated global statistical system producing and disseminating high-quality statistics through facilitating the development and well-functioning of regional and national statistical systems.
