SESRIC participated in the Round Table on ‘Supporting Policies and Innovations for Integrated Water Management in OIC Member States’ during the Cairo Water Week 2023

SESRIC participated in the Round Table on “Supporting Policies and Innovations for Integrated Water Management in OIC Member States,” which was organised by the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) in collaboration with the Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM) during the Cairo Water Week 2023 on 31 October 2023 in Cairo, Egypt.

The main objective of the round table was to present and discuss OIC countries’ experience on policy foundations for integrated water management, technological innovations for water efficiency, and to showcase initiatives and financing pathways for sustainable agricultural water management. The event, which began with the opening statements of Dr. Tarifa AL ZAABI, Director General of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), was moderated by Dr. Ismail ABDELHAMID, Advisor of Programs and Projects Department at IOFS and Mr. Timothy T. HANLON, Programs Director at INWRDAM.

High-level representatives and experts from OIC Countries, relevant international organizations and OIC institutions attended the meeting and were involved in the development of policies and programmes for water resource management. Mr. Muzamil EDEMA, Researcher at the Economic and Social Research Department represented SESRIC at this event and delivered a comprehensive presentation on “Water Resources and Challenges in OIC Member Countries,” covering the current state of water resources, existing issues and challenges, the efforts of SESRIC and OIC, and the way forward.

The Cairo Water Week is the largest water-related annual event in Egypt and the Middle East, which is organised by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Arab Republic of Egypt in collaboration with national, regional and international partners. It aims to promote water awareness and foster innovative approaches to face the most pressing water-related challenges, keep updates on global movements to address water challenges and identify modern tools and techniques for managing water resources. The sixth edition of Cairo Water Week 2023 took place during the period from 29 October to 2 November 2023, in Cairo, Egypt, themed “Action on Water Adaptation for Sustainability,” under the patronage of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
